I love this fourth installment of The Promise series. The characters were so ordinary and flawed that made it just perfect. I think that's the beauty of this series. For once, I'm not reading about billionaires or rockstars or other big bucks hero that romance novel usually have. It's about someone ordinary, that you could possibly meet at your own circle. It's the flaw in Adya's personality that made her easier to relate with. Luke's charming personality added with his all adoring father look made him so irresistible.
I like how Adya worked her way to pulling herself together to build a better life. I may not have went through the same path she did but I fully understand how hard it can be to make a brand new start but I'm glad she managed it. Not easily but through baby steps. I didn't expect the way the ex react but again, I like that there was no drama when it comes to that.
Penny and Carvey did it for me. The were both so adorable I find myself looking forward to their next appearance in the book. I love Penny's innocence and her honest desire to bring her father and Adya together. There's such a beauty in seeing things in the eyes of a child. And I'm guessing fate was on her side because it seem that also wants to bring Adya and Luke together. Serendipity - I guess that was what it really is between them.
I can't wait to read about what the last book in this series has to offer.
The New Leaf Pledge is book four in the Promises series. I have been holding my breath for this book since I started reading the series. For here we are presented with Adya's story. Bought back to Cincinnati by Corinne (The Matchmaking Pact) and looking to make a fresh start Adya is looking to re-discover herself before she lets anyone else become part of her life again.
Unfortunately, Penny Bridger has other plans for her and along with the family dog Carvey tries her darndest to bring Adya and her father Luke together at every opportunity available. Add into the fact that fate seems to want them to be together as well and Adya has a few decisions to make with regards to her choice to be alone, especially when Luke opens up her heart in a way that she thought she would never be capable of feeling again.
She's done far more than shake hands with men and felt a lot less.
The New Leaf Pledge is another funny and sweet addition to this series, I loved Penny - the innocence and honesty of childhood always adds another dimension to a book I find, and Carvey the dog was a character that bought a smile to my face.
Another thing I almost jumped off the sofa and started clapping about is the fact that Bonnie has finally managed to give eye-f**cking a voice, and she did it so well!
If only...I wish...It could have been so...I'm sorry...
I do however have a couple of small niggles this time, when Adya's past catches up with her, I have to admit I was expecting a little more drama (or a little expansion on the drama that was included). I also felt that Luke and Adya deserved more time and development in the bedroom, we only get too see them together once and I was left wanting more than I was given, which is something I never thought I would want to say for a Bonnie Dee book as she has one of the most diverse imaginations when it comes to writing sex that I have come across.
The above points are small ones, I still enjoyed the book, and I CANNOT wait for Bree's book and the final book in this thoroughly enjoyable series The Wedding Affirmation, hopefully coming to us soon!
